Love is the Goal!

As you can see we are busy.  It has been a busy past couple of months with 12 graduates from our youth moving up to Young Adult group, and about 6 new Youth moving up from Flip.  We are excited to get to know these young people better. Whenever life changes, we sometimes need to take another look into our lives.  As I have gone through some trials over the past few weeks, I have realized my capacity to love has had to increase and be revamped.  I have had to re-learn that God created everyone/everything for us to love, take care of and to nurture.  Youth ministry sure does make you learn to do just that.  We can’t keep our love in a box and make it pretty.  Could you imagine if God did that with us??? YIKES!! Our lives are messes yet He loves us no matter how MESSY we are.  His love is perfect and we are to resemble His love to those around us.  Many times at weddings we hear this common Bible verse:

1Corinthians 13:4-8

“Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”

WELL, doesn’t that just mess a person up??  As a youth leader, parent, or just a person living his or her own daily life, we have a great commandment.  LOVE!!!! Our goal in our youth, as in our church, is to love everyone right where they are.  No impatience, no rudeness, no envy, no boasting, no pride, no dishonor, no self-seeking, no anger, no records of wrongs, and no rejoicing in others hurt.  But we are to protect, trust, hope and keep on loving!!

I encourage everyone to look at your love.  Does it protect?  Does it trust? Does it hope? Does it persevere?  I know I have to look at my love daily, at home, work, church, the pool, and the list is endless.  As Danny Silk says, “Keep your Love On.”
